Position Definition
Summary of Position:
The duties will include, but may not be limited to, keeping accurate medical records, clerical work, client education, promotion of hospital products and services and support of the organization. This position requires knowledge of hospital procedures, policies and services; client and patient treatment protocols; hospital
Computer systems; and the standard procedures, records, and terminology used in a veterinary hospital. The Registered Veterinary Technician is the doctors’ primary support. They assist in pet restraint, lab work, procedures, surgery, nursing care, and triage/discharge of patients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by the veterinarian
- Prep and assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures
- Triage patients, perform physical exams, and gather brief medical histories
- Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment, i.e., EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors and machines
- Anesthetize animals and monitor anesthesia under the direction and supervision of the veterinarian
- Communicate with clients/owners about the status of patients, as directed by the veterinarian
- Fill prescriptions/administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms (after each patient), reception areas, hospital grounds, and treatment areas, as needed
- Clean cages, as needed
- Do laundry
- Communicate patient status with oncoming staff and veterinarians, and update records and financial information, as needed, in the computer
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, and/or pain
- Communicate and approach job duties in a mature manner
- Foster teamwork approach and work well with all levels of hospital team members
- Participate in all staff and technician/assistant mandatory staff meetings
- Participate in the review process for other technical staff and doctors when requested
- Answer phones and perform other reception duties as needed by the hospital
- Understand zoonotic disease risks in the work environment and use all appropriate safety equipment, garments, and procedures to protect self and others
- Understand and limit the potential exposure to bites, scratches, and potential injuries
- Understand that employees in this role are exposed to various cleaning solutions and other chemicals, odors, noises, and animal wastes and behave in a professional manner when dealing with these conditions
- Proactive role in developing new skills and furthering knowledge base by attending CE.
- Demonstrate flexibility to float to other departments in times of need
- Support the team in welcoming new employees and assist in the training process when needed

Position Overview
- The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include providing patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients; aids as directed by the veterinarian.
- Provide excellent pet care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Ensure that patients have food and water, clean patients' rooms, cages, and equipment; observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
- As directed, fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures, and in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and maintain receipts.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
- Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
- At least one year of relevant experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Two or more years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.

Carolina Veterinary Specialists is seeking a motivated, relationship-driven professional to join our team as a Referral Relations Manager. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building meaningful partnerships, expanding community presence, and developing strategic programs that drive growth across multiple hospitals.
As the voice and ambassador of CVS hospitals, the Referral Relations Manager will play a critical role in strengthening our connection with the veterinary community. This position is responsible for building and scaling a comprehensive referral relations program from the ground up, expanding our network of referring veterinarians, and ensuring a seamless and collaborative experience between referring practices and our specialty hospitals.
Working closely with hospital leadership, medical teams, and operations, the Referral Relations Manager will develop and implement initiatives that increase referral engagement, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the visibility of our services across the region.
This position supports multiple hospitals across two states and requires regular travel to referring practices, veterinary events, and community engagements.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and lead the referral relations strategy, developing and implementing initiatives that support hospital growth, service line expansion, and long-term partnership development.
- Build and manage a scalable referral program including processes, communication channels, engagement initiatives, and tracking systems.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with referring veterinary practices, serving as a trusted liaison and partner.
- Conduct in-person outreach and relationship-building visits with veterinary clinics across the region to strengthen engagement and identify new referral opportunities.
- Represent Carolina Veterinary Specialists at veterinary conferences, local events, and community outreach initiatives.
- Analyze referral trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscape to inform strategic decisions and recommend growth initiatives that impact hospital performance and market expansion.
- Develop and maintain referral performance dashboards and reporting to monitor referral volume, partner engagement, and program effectiveness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hospital leadership, operations teams, and medical staff to optimize referral workflows and communication.
- Identify and address referral leakage or barriers within the referral process and implement solutions to improve conversion and satisfaction.
- Educate internal teams on referral best practices and relationship management strategies.
- Execute targeted outreach campaigns and service education initiatives to increase awareness of specialty services and drive new referrals.
- Exercise independent judgment in developing outreach strategies, prioritizing referral partnerships, and determining engagement initiatives that support hospital growth and service expansion.
Qualifications

Our surgery team leads work closely with our surgeons, supporting all aspects of surgical and patient care—including elective, emergency, and specialized procedures. They
Schedule: 4-day work week with rotating shared on-call.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary anesthesia experience.
- Licensed Veterinary Technician must be completed or actively in progress. This does not include partially completed programs that are no longer active.

Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Board-Certified or Residency Trained Veterinary Cardiologist to join our team of incredible veterinarians and staff in Charlotte, North Carolina! The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.
Carolina Veterinary Specialists (CVS) operates 6 full-service, 24-hour-a-day emergency & specialty referral facilities in the Carolinas, with locations in Huntersville, Charlotte, Matthews, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Rock Hill, SC. Each location provides multiple referral specialties including but not limited to: Neurology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Cardiology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Behavior, Avian & Exotics as well as 24-hour emergency and critical care.

Key Responsibilities
- Comprehensive patient exams and medical work-ups
- Client communication and education
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications to patients and following controlled substance protocols
- Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
- Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
- Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge
- Monitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible to be sure the highest standards are being upheld
- Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
- Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications (Required)
- Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
- 1-year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, ER (university or large referral practice).
- Completed a 3-year, AVMA approved residency program
- Current State Veterinary License
- DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary care.
- Excellent Communication Skills and the ability to communicate effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff.
- Client communication skills, must be able to elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations with pet owners.
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain.
- May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work.
- Position does require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Board Certification
- 2-5 years of experience post-residency
- Clinical Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals. Perform cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological and other necessary examinations. Diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to develop solutions to challenges relating to the management of a high-quality veterinary hospital.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients. Display effective communication with internal medical and hospital staff.
- Professionalism: Work as part of a high-quality, professional veterinary team with the ability to provide and receive appropriate constructive criticism, suggestions, and feedback.
- Business Acumen: Ability to understand the management and finances of the veterinary hospital practice.
- Ethics: Knowledge and understanding of ethical principles that guide decisions affecting patients.
- Commitment to Continuing Education: Commitment to utilize available resources of continuing education and to facilitate learning of others.
