Position Definition
Summary of Position:
The receptionist is often the first point of contact with a new client or referring veterinarian. There is only one chance to make a positive first impression and it takes exceptional service skills to make it happen. The receptionist must be friendly, professional, courteous, show urgency and appropriate concern at all times. They must be efficient in handling difficult service situations and skilled at basic accounting and cash handling. They must be positive, empathetic and optimistic at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet clients in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner
- Answer multi-line phone system and direct the calls accordingly
- Obtain medical and other information from referring vets
- Schedule and confirm appointments
- Check-in patients in the hospital according to schedule and prepare patient files
- Page overhead to notify appropriate departments that patients have arrived
- Scan or otherwise record medical records
- Make sure the lobby and reception areas are organized and neat, including stocking and cleaning the beverage areas for clients
- Fax, file, and distribute faxes and other documents
- Obtain deposits and other payments from clients
- Client admission and check out

Position Definition
Summary of Position:
The duties will include, but may not be limited to, keeping accurate medical records, clerical work, client education, promotion of hospital products and services and support of the organization. This position requires knowledge of hospital procedures, policies and services; client and patient treatment protocols; hospital
Computer systems; and the standard procedures, records, and terminology used in a veterinary hospital. The Registered Veterinary Technician is the doctors’ primary support. They assist in pet restraint, lab work, procedures, surgery, nursing care, and triage/discharge of patients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by the veterinarian
- Prep and assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures
- Triage patients, perform physical exams, and gather brief medical histories
- Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment, i.e., EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors and machines
- Anesthetize animals and monitor anesthesia under the direction and supervision of the veterinarian
- Communicate with clients/owners about the status of patients, as directed by the veterinarian
- Fill prescriptions/administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms (after each patient), reception areas, hospital grounds, and treatment areas, as needed
- Clean cages, as needed
- Do laundry
- Communicate patient status with oncoming staff and veterinarians, and update records and financial information, as needed, in the computer
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, and/or pain
- Communicate and approach job duties in a mature manner
- Foster teamwork approach and work well with all levels of hospital team members
- Participate in all staff and technician/assistant mandatory staff meetings
- Participate in the review process for other technical staff and doctors when requested
- Answer phones and perform other reception duties as needed by the hospital

We are seeking a dynamic and community-focused Referral Coordinator to join our team at Carolina Veterinary Specialist to help strengthen relationships with local veterinary practices and pet owners across our four hospitals. This position is instrumental in increasing brand recognition, streamlining referral processes, and representing our hospitals in the community. The ideal candidate will thrive in a field-based role, be passionate about building connections in the veterinary community, and have strong communication and marketing skills.
Essential Position Functions:
- Build and maintain relationships with referring veterinarians, support staff, and clients across four hospital locations.
- Develop and implement a consistent referral system to improve communication and patient transfers between practices.
- Identify top referrers and ensure ongoing engagement and recognition.
- Represent the hospitals at community and veterinary events throughout the region.
- Act as the face of the organization—attend outreach events, visit clinics, and promote hospital services.
- Collaborate with our event planner to ensure promotional materials (swag, handouts, etc.) are aligned with branding efforts
- Promote our hospital services to increase community awareness and establish a strong presence in previously underserved areas.
- Execute grassroots marketing initiatives and campaigns in coordination with leadership.
- Maintain a professional, friendly, and upbeat presence in all outreach efforts.
- Regularly communicate with the Hospital Managers at all four locations to ensure alignment and shared goals.
- Act as a liaison between referring practices and internal teams.
- Work closely with leadership to analyze referral trends and provide feedback for improvement.
- Utilize Cornerstone to pull reports and analyze referral data across locations.
- Help troubleshoot data-sharing challenges among hospitals and assist in establishing workflows
- Maintain organized documentation of outreach, mileage, and referral activities.

About the Role
Our surgery team leads work closely with our surgeons, supporting all aspects of surgical and patient care—including elective, emergency, and specialized procedures. They
Schedule: 4-day work week with rotating shared on-call.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary anesthesia experience.
- Licensed Veterinary Technician must be completed or actively in progress. This does not include partially completed programs that are no longer active.
- An understanding of and previous experience with ventilator equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-centered environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills for dictating surgical flow and case records.

Summary of Position
Responsible for all aspects of surgical flow, including seeing surgical appointments, performing diagnostics prior to surgery, administering and monitoring anesthesia in the pre-, peri-, and post-operative periods, maintaining treatment while in hospital post-operatively, discharging, and client communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain sterile environment in surgical suites, including bleaching, mopping, and cleaning of surgical tables and equipment
- Properly maintain and use ventilator for patients
- Properly prep and scrub patients for sterile surgical procedures
- Monitor blood loss
- Monitor patient parameters and notify doctor of potential concerns
- Monitor sponge count in the interest of patient safety, ensuring that all sponges and instruments are accounted for properly
- Scrub in, as necessary, with surgeons
- Administer blood transfusions, as necessary, during surgery
- Take proactive role in life-saving techniques during surgery, as necessary
- Properly record patient vitals and trends on anesthesia flow sheet
- Proper bandage and wound care for patients
- Proper handling of diagnostic specimens during procedure and facilitating the proper care and transfer to laboratory including accurate request forms
- Maintain the efficiency of the service by utilizing time management skills to recognize and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Assist in anesthesia machine maintenance
- Performs other duties as assigned

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Board-Certified or Residency Trained Veterinary Cardiologist to join our team of incredible veterinarians and staff in Charlotte, North Carolina! Carolina Veterinary Specialists (CVS) operates 6 full-service, 24-hour-a-day emergency & specialty referral facilities in the Carolinas, with locations in Huntersville, Charlotte, Matthews, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Rock Hill, SC. Each location provides multiple referral specialties including but not limited to: Neurology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Cardiology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Behavior, Avian & Exotics as well as 24-hour emergency and critical care.

Key Responsibilities
- Comprehensive patient exams and medical work-ups
- Client communication and education
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications to patients and following controlled substance protocols
- Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
- Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
- Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge
- Monitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible to be sure the highest standards are being upheld
- Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
- Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications (Required)
- Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
- 1-year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, ER (university or large referral practice).
- Completed a 3-year, AVMA approved residency program
- Current State Veterinary License
- DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary care.
- Excellent Communication Skills and the ability to communicate effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff.
- Client communication skills, must be able to elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations with pet owners.
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain.
- May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work.
- Position does require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

- 2-5 years of experience post-residency
- Clinical Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals. Perform cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological and other necessary examinations. Diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to develop solutions to challenges relating to the management of a high-quality veterinary hospital.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients. Display effective communication with internal medical and hospital staff.
- Professionalism: Work as part of a high-quality, professional veterinary team with the ability to provide and receive appropriate constructive criticism, suggestions, and feedback.
- Business Acumen: Ability to understand the management and finances of the veterinary hospital practice.

Position Overview
- The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include providing patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients; aids as directed by the veterinarian.
- Provide excellent pet care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Ensure that patients have food and water, clean patients' rooms, cages, and equipment; observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
- As directed, fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures, and in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and maintain receipts.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
- Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience and certifications within the industry; Preferred: 2 or more years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.

- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
